Things to Do and Things to Go and See
Many of our guests appriciate the help and advice that we give them while advising places to visit and things to do. Here Alasdair suggests a trip to see the islands in Loch Maree to Mr and Mrs Cei and family who visited Scotland from Florence.
The Highlands of Scotland is very rich in fascinating places to visit and things to see.
History

It is said that Scotland has more history than any other country in the world. It is also fascinating history, going back 10,000 years to when the first people settled here. We could show you a 5000 year old stone age settlement, (that is older than the Pyramids), and the amazing Standing Stones which were used for thousands of years thereafter. What were they? Maps of the Heavens? Sacrificial altars? Mythical giants turned to stone by the rising sun? Their mystery almost equals their beauty .
We can show you lots in between, up to to the site of the Battle of Culloden, the last battle fought on British soil, (a depiction of the Highlanders' charge at Culloden shown above). The battle was fought within sight of Drynie just over 250 years ago. >
Buildings

The picture on the right shows the ruins of Fortrose Cathedral, (no, not Henry VIII's fault this time), but burnt down by the Wolf of Badenoch, one of the local aristocracy who had a wee difference of opinion about his behaviour with the incumbent Bishop. Kind of proved the Bishop's point though!
Nessie (Or Mother-in-law, as I call her)
The Loch Ness Monster, (shown above), lives just 20 minutes away from us. The Loch attracts more visitors than any other Scottish attraction, with the exception of Edinburgh Castle!
If you are interested in fishing or shooting, we can arrange Salmon or Trout, or Sea Fishing for you
Fishing or Shooting

We can organise some of the finest salmon and trout fishing packages, including ghillies. We will also provide transport to and from the beat to allow you to have a dram to celebrate your catch!!
Nature
The Highlands of Scotland is home to some fantastic natural sites. Ospreys, red squirrels, rivers and waterfalls, the remains of Scotland’s ancient Oak forests, you are truly spoiled with things to see and do. Chanonry Point, shown above, (it is beside Fortrose Golf Course), is now the most visited Natural History site in Scotland because our Moray Firth Dolphins take great pleasure in splashing the tourists.
Hill Walking
For the more active there are some excellent hill walks and mountain ranges for you to enjoy. Or, you may love mountain biking through the Highlands. If so, we can provide secure storage for your bikes.
